After the release of the Synthwave-inspired “City Lights” in June 2016, David Andrew Wiebe returns with his latest creation, “Don’t Wait Too Long”, a melodic power pop anthem.
While “Don’t Wait Too Long” may be catchy and hooky, and ultimately uplifting, it is also apparent that the song was borne out of a season of challenge, trial, and difficulty.
“What was the step you took that led you down into darkness?”, asks the writer. But in the end he turns inwards and affirms, “I believe in you”, whether it’s in himself, God, or in his friend that’s taken a turn for the worse – that’s a matter of interpretation.
Is the central message to stop waiting for change, or is it to persevere through faith? The listener is left with this question after being taken on a musical journey of hope, and all the doubt and wondering that can sometimes come with it.
Wiebe’s latest release lies somewhere between his authentic self and the constant exploration he has become known for. “Fragments” was clearly an imprint and extension of himself, while “City Lights” was a pleasant but unexpected detour. Meanwhile, “Don’t Wait Too Long” sounds like a collision of the two. But this time, there are lyrics and vocals to help tell the story.
Fans will be pleased to hear Wiebe’s voice once more, and his continued musical evolution.
lyrics
What was the step you took
That led you down into darkness?
What was the lie that you believed
That put you in a pit of despair?
Pre-Chorus:
And still you say
You can’t relate
Chorus:
They say don’t wait too long
For a miracle to come
Nothing’s ever going to change
They say don’t waste your time
Putting faith in a lie
But I believe in you
Tangled in a trap of your own making
There’s no escaping your web of lies
There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide anymore
Everyone can hear your cry for help
Alternate Chorus:
They say it’s just too late
There is no way
Nothing’s ever going to change
They say there is no hope
No, you can’t sit and wait
But I believe in you
